Última A morphological reappraisal of the immature stages and life history of Elachista synethes Meyrick (Lepidoptera, Elachistidae), an Australian leaf miner alien to Chile Rev. Bras. entomol. ABSTRACT Elachista synethes was recently recognized as an alien species in northern Chile, where its larvae mine the rescue grass Bromus catharticus (Poaceae). In order to provide the necessary information to allow field detection of E. synethes during early ontogeny, we conducted a morphological reappraisal of the immature stages of this leaf-miner moth, based on light and scanning electron microscopy, including the first descriptions of the egg and the first-instar larva. This is the first report of the existence of an apodal early larva for a species of Elachista Treitschke. Agriscientia (Córdoba) Abbott,L.; Pistorale,S.. Trece genotipos de Bromus catharticus Vahl. (cebadilla criolla) se evaluaron, durante 3 años, utilizando un diseño experimental completamente aleatorizado con seis repeticiones para estimar parámetros estadísticos y genéticos. Por planta individual se analizaron los siguientes caracteres: número de macollos, número de panojas, número de espiguillas por espiga, número de semillas llenas, número de semillas totales, peso de 1000 semillas, largo de la panoja, ancho de hoja bandera y largo de hoja bandera. Las pruebas multivariadas mostraron diferencias significativas para todos los caracteres en estudio. La varianza genética fue superior a la ambiental en los tres años para todos los caracteres. This study examined the relationship between herbage mass and tiller population density in terms of size/density compensation theory, in tall fescue (Festuca arundinacea Schreb.) and prairie grass (Bromus catharticus Vhal) swards. Tall fescue herbage mass and tiller density information was collected from an experiment where two nitrogen levels, two seeding arrangements and two grazing frequencies were evaluated. In prairie grass, the same information was obtained from swards managed with two levels of defoliation frequency and intensity. In tall fescue size density compensation mechanisms were observed when nitrogen nutrition limitation was overecome.
